Themes and Symbols

The main symbols that I learn much about were:
  •  The River:  One of the main symbols in the book, it represents unity, harmony. It teaches you to let things flow in a natural way like the water.
  •  Om: Represents the perfection, your thruth, your objective in life. Also teaches you to try to know how you really are.
  • Kamala: represents the meaning of love, the start of a different way of living your life.
  • The Players: represents all the pain, decreasing your values and  a bad and not pure way of living.

In this book we can find the constant search for truth of Siddhartha and Govinda, this truth (Nirvana) is the understanding of live, in the hope to understand their lives through spirituality, and having the believe that truth is possible.  This means that truth leads  to a relationship of the world and the last goal every man hopes to reach, so we can see how Siddhartha and Govinda differ on they own way of reaching this goal.
Siddhartha thinks much more than Govinda, he is more impulsive, he searches for the truth always trying to get away of the spiritual and religious world.  He will search for truth only if it is guided by respected teacher and between the believes of Hinduism and Buddhism. Due to this, Govinda is unable to seek for truth around him, since his believes limits him due to the teachings of his teachers.
This is why the only way that he can find Nirvana (or truth) is the teachings of Siddhartha, nad not only by his own.
Om is the unity of all things, and helps Siddhartha understand that there is a link between Om is the first step to find the truth, and he can see that since many people talks about Om but they can´t reach it, since their lives don´t reflect this achievement.  He understand that live is indestructible, and that he has to make his live easier and not trying to do things that are not meant to be. And Siddhartha is able to get to the goal, when he understand that life, moments, and time goes together as one and cannot be divided to our conveniences.
