Siddhartha - is the main character in the story. Due to his believes, he starts a search and finds numerous tests through out the religious philosophies he discovers. We can see in the book his desire for an understanding of himself and the world, even when the path is difficult and he has several tests and he follows his heart. We can see his personal search for knowledge.
Vasudeva - Is a ferryman who guides Siddhartha to an understanding of himself and the universe. Vasudeva is socially and spiritually weak, and he is closely linked to the river, he helps Siddhartha to listen the river’s secrets. Thanks to his encounter with Vasudeva he finds spiritual peace.
Govinda - is his best friend and follower, he also dedicates his life for the search of understanding and light.
Kamala - is his lover and helps him find the art of physical love, also the mother of his son.
Gotama - a special religious leader, known as the Buddha, Govinda in the novel decides to follow him, but Siddhartha decides not to follow him because he discovers that his teachings might not help others.
Kamaswami - he teaches Siddhartha about business since he is a businessman. He learns that money and business are part of the material world which take him to unhappiness and will not fulfill him.
